Hitoshi One, famous for having a cutting-edge imaging technique and the sense of music, creates "SUNNY“, a remake movie which is originally released in South Korea.
The original film became a big-hit in Japan, making everyone fall in love with the beautiful friend-ship story. Announcing himself as a huge fan of the original film, the director Hitoshi One successfully wrote a script re-building the story setting in Japan, and added much influences from the 90’s Japanese music and fashion to the film.
For One’s “SUNNY”, Genki Kawamura, a producer who keeps releasing countless hit titles to the world spices up the story. On top of that, Tetsuya Komuro, who swept the 90’s era with his music in Japan, takes a charge in composing music. This summer, “SUNNY” brings a joy to the screen with an overwhelming musical gimmicks with the 90’s J-POP hits, supported by the top actors/actress, such as Ryoko Shinohara and Suzu Hirose.
6 friends from a girl’s high school, call themselves as ‘SUNNY’, enjoying their youth in the 1990’s.
At that time, their lives were glowing brightly, girls wearing white loose socks in an unprecedented ‘gyaru’ boom. After 22 years, the girls grew up as adults, dealing with their own problems.
Nami, a girl from ‘SUNNY’, who is now a full-time housewife, is living a life without any inconvenience. One day, Nami accidentally sees her former best friend from ‘SUNNY’, Serika, at the hospital. Nami then finds out that Serika is suffering from a terminal cancer. Reunited, Serika asks Nami a favor, saying she wants to meet the 4 other girls from ‘SUNNY’ again before her death, and Nami starts to fulfill Serika’s wish. Members from ‘SUNNY’ are: Nami, Serika, Yuko, Shin, Ume, and Nana. Can they all reunite again while Serika is alive?
The story tells their high school days with full of bright dreams, and contrasting present.
The time-intersecting story strikes everyone with a strong emotion.
