I decided to erase in order to live. Thus, my mysterious seven days with a cat and a cheerful devil begins.
"I" am a thirty-year-old mailman who lives in a provincial city. I'm a bit of a movie nerd. I live alone with my cat. One day, I'm suddenly taken ill and informed that I'm dying from a brain tumor. I come home feeling devastated, and am greeted by a man who looks exactly like me. He introduces himself as the devil and offers to make an odd deal.
"I'll prolong your life one day for each thing you agree to erase from this world." One must lose something in order to gain something. Finding the proposal hard to believe, I nevertheless accept the offer. Thus my mysterious seven days with a cat and a cheerful devil begins.
The devil erases things from the world and extends my life one day at a time. Phones, movies, clocks… In exchange for my life, things really vanish from the world. A world without phones. A world without movies. A world without clocks. Only when these things are gone, do I get a sense of their meanings and values for the first time. And in this world where things cease to exist one by one, I go see my ex, my first girlfriend, and we retrace the memories of our time together. I also go talk to my best friend, think of my late mother and about my long-estranged father.
I imagine what the world would be like after I die and disappear. Then on Friday the devil tells me to erase cats from the world. Agonizing from despair, I run frantically in search for my cat. But no matter how much I run, my cat is nowhere to be found. In the midst of the search, I come across a letter written by my late mother. What I discover in the letter are some unexpected thoughts that she had left behind.
